Step 01

Let your dog do the introducing

Your BarkUp profile centres on your dog: the way they walk, the company they like and what helps them feel comfortable.

Size, age and usual walking pace
Temperament and preferred greeting style
Play style, energy and any useful boundaries

Trail note Owner names, home addresses and a public personal profile are not the point.

Step 02

Browse compatibility, not a live people map

Find dogs in a broad local area, then filter around the traits that make a shared walk more likely to work.

Choose the sort of pace and energy that suits
See relevant dog-to-dog preferences first
Keep exact homes and live positions out of discovery

Step 03

Make the first hello a walk

Agree a public place, keep the start low-pressure and give both dogs time to settle side by side.

Share a public meeting point and expected length
Start with space instead of a head-on greeting
Leave or end the walk if either dog is uncomfortable

Set the tone early

Clear expectations are kind.

A short, honest profile is more useful than a perfect-looking one. BarkUp will encourage people to share the details that help another owner make a good decision.

Say what helps

“My dog needs a slow hello” is useful information. It sets everyone up for a better start.

Say what does not

Be honest about boundaries, reactivity or play that can be too much for another dog.

Keep consent current

Either person can change their mind, shorten a walk or leave. A match is never an obligation.
