BarkUp FAQ

The sensible questions, answered.

BarkUp is pre-launch, so some details are still being shaped. Here is what is decided, what is planned and where we will not pretend certainty.

01

Getting started

What is BarkUp?

BarkUp is a pre-launch local dog-walking community app. It is designed to help owners find compatible dogs nearby, share the details that matter for a walk and arrange calmer introductions in public places.

When is BarkUp launching?

There is no public launch date yet. BarkUp will open gradually when the safety, privacy and community foundations are ready. Waitlist interest will help decide which areas make sense for an early launch.

Where will BarkUp launch first?

Launch areas have not been announced. The optional outward-postcode field on the waitlist helps identify genuine clusters of local interest without collecting full postcodes.

How old do I need to be?

BarkUp is intended for adults aged 18 and over. Adult verification is planned as one of the safety layers at launch.

02

Safety & privacy

Will other members see my exact location?

No. Discovery is being designed around broad local areas, not public home pins or continuous live location. A specific public meeting point can be shared deliberately for a planned walk.

What does identity verification mean?

It means checking that the person behind a dog profile is a real adult. Verification reduces some types of misuse, but it is not a background character reference and cannot guarantee how someone will behave.

What if another member makes me uncomfortable?

You will be able to block contact and report the relevant profile, message or conduct. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services first; BarkUp is not an emergency service.

Does a BarkUp match mean two dogs are guaranteed to get along?

No. Matching provides useful compatibility signals, not a guarantee. Owners remain responsible for their dogs and should use calm, on-lead introductions with enough space to leave.

03

Profiles & walks

Why is my dog the visible identity?

Your dog’s temperament, pace and preferred kind of company are what make a walk work. BarkUp keeps that information prominent without requiring owners to turn their personal lives into public social content.

Is BarkUp a dog dating app?

No. BarkUp is about compatible walking company and local community. It is not for breeding, animal sales or human dating.

Can I organise a group walk?

Small community walks are planned for launch. Organisers will be able to state the public meeting point, intended pace, route details and group expectations.

Can reactive or nervous dogs use BarkUp?

BarkUp is inspired by dogs who benefit from more considerate introductions. Owners must describe needs honestly and decide whether any particular meeting is appropriate. The app cannot replace professional veterinary or behavioural advice.

04

Cost & updates

Will BarkUp be free?

Pricing has not been finalised. Joining the waitlist is free. Any paid plan or feature will be explained clearly before someone is asked to choose it.

What emails will I receive?

Waitlist members will receive a confirmation email, then occasional product and launch updates. BarkUp will not send daily noise or sell the waitlist as an advertising list.

How do I leave the waitlist?

Every waitlist email will include an unsubscribe link. The confirmation email also includes a removal link if someone used your address without permission.
